Amid reports of the government disabling multiple OTT apps for allegedly streaming obscene content, media mogul Ekta Kapoor has issued a formal statement distancing herself from ALTT, one of the platforms named in the crackdown.
In an official clarification, Balaji Telefilms Limited stated:
“To whomsoever it may concern,
Balaji Telefilms Limited, listed on the BSE and NSE, is a professionally run media organization. Following the recent amalgamation of ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd. (previously its wholly owned subsidiary), duly approved by the Hon’ble NCLT, it now operates ALTT with effect from June 20, 2025.”
However, the company emphasized that both Ekta Kapoor and her mother, Shobha Kapoor, have not been associated with ALTT for years.
The company also strongly denied any insinuation to the contrary and urged the media to report accurate facts.
Balaji Telefilms reaffirmed its commitment to full legal compliance and adherence to the highest standards of corporate governance.
This clarification comes in the wake of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting directing Internet Service Providers to block access to several OTT apps, including ALTT, citing violations of the IT Act and other laws.
