Authorities stop AR Rahman’s concert in Pune; officers climb the stage to interrupt the performer

While performing the song Chaiyaa Chaiyaa, AR Rahman was interrupted by police officers who wanted to halt the show.

Recently, live performances by Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman were witnessed in Pune. The Pune Police did, however, halt his performance, and several recordings of the incident have since surfaced online. Pune Police said that the composer had gone over the 10 o’clock deadline shortly after social media users expressed their displeasure.

“Pune Police stopped music maestro AR Rahman from singing during his concert last night after he continued to perform beyond the permissible time of 10 pm,” news agency ANI tweeted, on Monday.

A video showing the police halting AR Rahman’s performance has gone viral on social media in the midst of the fan unrest. A supporter who posted the video voiced his dismay and stated,

Another video shows the artist singing Chaiyaa Chaiyaa as police storm the stage to put an end to the performance. According to the most recent reports, once the event was stopped by the police, singer AR Rahman was also questioned about why he didn’t end it before the deadline.

In a statement released immediately after the event, Pune Police explained that the actor was singing and had no idea it was after 10 o’clock; as a result, a police officer had to interrupt the performance and inform him that the deadline had to be met in accordance with SC regulations.
