Hamisha Daryani Ahuja’s directorial debut, Namaste Wahala, is a 2020 Nigerian cross-cultural romance comedy film produced, written, and directed by Hamisha Daryani Ahuja. Ini Dima-Okojie and Ruslaan Mumtaz play the key characters in the film. This film has been regarded as the first major collaboration between Bollywood and Nollywood, two of the world’s most powerful film industries.
The film is about a romantic relationship between an Indian lad and a Nigerian girl who, despite their cultural distinctions, come from very different backgrounds. If we talk about this film’s story, it is not based on a true story. On December 1, 2020, it had a limited theatrical premiere in Nigeria, where it received excellent reviews. On February 14, 2021, on Valentine’s Day, the film was released on Netflix worldwide.
Hamisha Daryani Ahuja, an Indian-Nigerian businesswoman turned filmmaker, announced the project as her directorial debut. Despite being an Indian, she has spent her whole life in Nigeria, having been born and raised there.
Hamisha drew on her personal experience growing up in Nigeria to create a love story between the two titans of the film industry. The film was primarily shot in English, with some Hindi and pidgin thrown in for good measure.
