Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma essayed the lead roles in Band Baaja Baaraat, a 2010 Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy film. It is both Ranveer’s and filmmaker Maneesh Sharma’s first Hindi film. Despite initial competition from ‘No Problem’ and ‘Tees Maar Khan’, the film gained widespread critical acclaim and commercial success. Jabardasth, helmed by Nandini Reddy, was an unauthorized Telugu remake released in 2013.
In the story they start out hating one other, then team up for business, only to split up when love gets in the way.
The film’s score and tracks were composed by the duo Salim–Sulaiman, who had previously composed music for Yash Raj Films projects such as Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.
The movie garnered a lot of positive feedback. The film had a low-budget debut, grossing less than Rupees 60 million. Box Office India gave the picture an ‘Average’ rating. It grossed around 965.1 million rupees during its theatrical run. Band Baaja Baaraat was something of a sleeper hit.
The music (who can forget the cheerful Ainvayi Ainvayi?) was a big factor for the enormous response and buzz generated before the release.Sonu Nigam joined Jermaine Jackson, the late Michael Jackson’s elder brother, to deliver a touching musical homage to the superstar at the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Prizes here, and the band Baaja Baaraat won three IIFA awards.
