Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is a 2015 Indian Hindi-language romantic drama film directed by Sooraj Barjatya and produced by Rajshri Productions and distributed by Fox Star Studios.
It is the fourth collaboration between Barjatya and Khan after their previous films, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Maine Pyar Kiya…! Hum Saath Saath Hain and Hum Saath Saath Hain. The film stars Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor.
The score was composed by Sanjoy Chowdhury, while the lyrics were written by Himesh Reshammiya. The principal photography for the film began on June 26, 2014, and ended on September 2, 2015.
On November 12th, 2015, it was released worldwide. The film was a commercial success, earning Rupees 3.88 billion (US$52 million) globally, making it the second highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2015 and one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films ever.
According to Indian news outlets, the film’s central narrative is based on the 2012 South Korean film Masquerade, which was largely based on Anthony Hope’s 1894 novel The Prisoner of Zenda.
The film’s music rights were sold to T-Series for Rs. 17 crores (US$2.3 million), while The Satellite sold the music rights for Rs. 57 crores, making it the most expensive music rights deal in Bollywood history at the time.
