Is Singham movie a remake?

Singham is a Hindi-language action film directed by Rohit Shetty and produced by Reliance Entertainment in 2011. It is based on a script by Yunus Sajawal and Farhad-Sajid. Ajay-Atul composed the film’s music, and Swanand Kirkire wrote the lyrics.

The film stars Ajay Devgn as Bajirao Singham, a station house officer turned police inspector, with Kajal Aggarwal as his love interest and Prakash Raj as the primary antagonist, and is a remake of Hari Gopalakrishnan’s 2010 Tamil film Singam.

In June 2011, the theatrical trailer was released alongside Salman Khan’s Ready. It was released theatrically in India on July 22, 2011, to positive reviews and a great box office response; the film grossed Rupees 876 million in India on its first day and a worldwide total of $1.57 billion against a budget of Rupees 410 million, making it a box office hit.
Due to the success of the film, Devgn and Shetty cooperated on three sequels: the first, Singham Returns, marked Shetty’s producing debut and was produced by Devgn, reunited the couple with Kareena Kapoor Khan, who replaced Aggarwal as the female lead and was a direct sequel to Singham.

Following the success of Hari’s Tamil film Singam in 2010, the producers sold the remake rights for Hindi and Kannada versions of the film. Reliance Big Pictures, the co-producers of the Tamil version, bought the Hindi remake rights and announced in November 2010 that Rohit Shetty will helm the remake with Ajay Devgn in the starring role.
