Dr. Swaroop Sampat is an Indian actress who has appeared in Hindi language films such as Naram Garam and Nakhuda, as well as television series such as Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi. In 1979, she has crowned Miss India and went on to represent India at the Miss Universe pageant.
Swaroop Sampat is a Gujarati Hindu who grew up in a Gujarati Hindu family. Bachu Sampat, her father, is a well-known Gujarati theatre artist, and her mother is a doctor (surgical oncologist). Swaroop is married to Paresh Rawal, an Indian actor. The pair married in 1987 at Mumbai’s Lakshmi Narayan Temple after dating for 17 years.

Swaroop earned his doctorate from the University of Worcester with a bachelor’s degree in education. Her doctoral dissertation focused on the use of theatre to improve living skills in children with learning difficulties.
Swaroop Sampat rose to fame after starring as Shafi Inamdar’s wife in the extremely popular TV comedy show Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi. She is a trainer who travels across India giving workshops to teachers to pass on this knowledge to children. Narendra Modi, the Gujarat Chief Minister at the time, chose her to lead a children’s educational initiative.
