Saif Ali Khan, Sunil Grover, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Dimple Kapadia, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Dino Morea, and Anup Soni are among the ensemble cast members. The series is set in India’s shadowy political underbelly, where people would go to any length to gain power. Tandav’s main shot began in October 2019, with the majority of the action taking place in Haryana’s Pataudi Palace and Delhi. The series’ cinematography is done by Karol Stadnik, and the editing is handled by Steven H. Bernard; Julius Packiam composed the background score. On January 15, 2021, the series aired on Amazon Prime Video, a streaming service.

The series sparked outrage as numerous leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party demanded that it be banned, accusing the creators and actors of hurting Hindu religious sensibilities and ridiculing the Hindu God Shiva in one of the episodes, as well as describing it as anti-Dalit. Following the uproar, Ali Abbas Zafar issued an unqualified apology on behalf of the show’s cast and crew and stated that he would make changes to the web series in response to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry’s reservations about some aspects of the show.
