Faruk Kabir wrote and directed Khuda Haafiz, a 2020 Indian Hindi-language action thriller film produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak under Panorama Studios. Vidyut Jammwal and Shivaleeka Oberoi appear in the film, which also has Annu Kapoor, Aahana Kumra, and Shiv Pandit in supporting parts.
The film is based on true events and follows Sameer Chaudhary, a young man who races against time to save his kidnapped wife Nargis from flesh traders amid the financial crisis of 2007–2008. On August 14, 2020, the film aired on Disney+ Hotstar. Critics praised Jammwal’s performance, the action sequences he performed himself, the tone, storyline, and cohesiveness of the picture. In the Disney+Hotstar OTT platform, it was a hit.
Vidyut began his career as a villain and now appears in a new persona. Surprisingly, the actor had to put in a lot of effort for the part and had to unlearn a lot in order to perform it correctly. “Vidyut comes from a hardcore action space, so the aim was to get down to the basics and real sense of performance,” Faruk said of Vidyut’s three-month training.
We did three months of workshops, which included readings of various scenes, a backstory for his part, body language, the way he would talk and speak. He also had to nail down the sur of the character. On an emotional level, this is uncharted ground for Vidyut, so we had to delve into it.”
