When it comes to a list of the most important taboos in Western culture, death might not cut. However, it should: North Americans and Europeans have a strong aversion to dying. We believe that if we stick to the perfect gym routine, eat plenty of kale, and take the right pricey supplements, we may live indefinitely. Here is the list.

Cronenberg’s early Canadian B-movie creepers are both excellent – it’s difficult not to consider ‘Shivers,’ which takes place entirely in a luxury condominium, as a precursor to the consumerist nightmare of ‘Dawn of the Dead,’ – but “Rabid” is the more polished effort.

Val Lewton, the master of horror at RKO, was on fire when he created this parody on the origins of zombie fiction in voodoo tradition.
5. “Re-Animator” (Stuart Gordon, 1985): Stuart Gordon’s perennial campy gore-fest classic is one of the most beloved horror movies ever for a reason: it’s based on H.P. Lovecraft’s 1922 short story ‘Herbert West–Reanimator.’ Imagine the staff of Mad Magazine directing Romero’s ‘Night of the Living Dead.’
