What is the movie about N.W.A called?

Straight Outta Compton is a 2015 American biographical drama movie directed by F. Gary Gray about the gangsta rap group N.W.A and its members Eazy-E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, MC Ren, and DJ Yella’s rise and collapse.

N.W.A members were involved in the movie’s production. Ice Cube and Dr. Dre produced the film, while Eazy-widow, E’s Tomica Woods-Wright, and MC Ren and DJ Yella worked as creative consultants. Ice Cube is played by his real-life son, O’Shea Jackson Jr., with Dr. Dre and Eazy-E played by Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell, respectively. Jerry Heller, N.W.A’s manager, is played by Paul Giamatti.

There has been talking of an N.W. New Line Cinema began filming a biopic in 2010. Before Gray was confirmed in April 2012, other filmmakers were approached, including Craig Brewer, Peter Berg, and John Singleton. Principal photography began in August 2014 in Los Angeles and Compton, California, with many of the cast signing on in June 2014. Several complications arose throughout the production, including casting call concerns and on-set violence.

Straight Outta Compton was released on August 14, 2015, and grossed over $201 million on a production budget of $50 million. It was named one of the top ten films of 2015 by the National Board of Review and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. It was the inspiration for Dr. Dre’s third studio album, Compton, which debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 album chart a week before the movie’s release.
