Ketan Mehta produced and directed Aar Ya Paar, a 1997 Bollywood mystery crime thriller film. Jackie Shroff, Deepa Sahi, Ritu Shivpuri, Kamal Sidhu, and Paresh Rawal feature in the film. Viju Shah composed the music. The film was partly shot in Italy and is based on Agatha Christie’s 1967 novel Endless Night and James Hadley Chase’s 1954 novel The Sucker Punch.
The film is mentioned in Avijit Ghosh’s book, 40 Retakes: A Novel. You Might Have Missed These Bollywood Classics. Viju Shah wrote the soundtrack for the film. Indeevar, Maya Govind, Nitin Raikwar, and Rani Malik wrote the lyrics. Venus Records & Tapes Pvt. Ltd. released the soundtrack.
Shekhar Khosla (Jackie Shroff) is a poor playboy, an alcoholic, and an accounts executive. He has an on-again, off-again relationship with Julie, a cabaret dancer (Ritu Shivpuri). His boss instructs him to improve himself one day and hands him Veena Sanghvi (Kamal Sidhu), a multi-million rupee client, and asks him to maintain and build a relationship with her.
Shekhar meets Veena, seduces her, and marries her while having an affair with Anu Chauhan, Veena’s personal secretary (Deepa Sahi). Veena threatens to divorce him if she finds out about the affair. Shekhar is unaware of the will. Shekhar and Anu then devise a plan to assassinate her. They succeed in carrying out their plan, with the police concluding that her death was unintentional. Shekhar discovers that Anu is not in love with him. To make matters worse, the cops have evidence that connects him to his wife’s death.
