Shiva is unaware that his father fought and killed a shape-shifting snake during his boyhood in order to satisfy his greed, provoking the anger of the snake’s formidable mother, who vows to wreak retribution. Shiva was bitten and thought to be dead, so his family tenderly tossed his body into a river, where it was discovered and recovered by Shiva’s adopted Father.
He was then resurrected with the aid of black magic and adopted by Baba, who also taught him black magic. In their town, on Naag Panchami, whoever kidnaps a girl and brings her to his house is allowed to marry her.
