The animated family movie has continuously fared well at the box office, with Walt Disney Animation Studios enjoying lucrative re-releases prior to the home video era. Disney has produced movies such as Aladdin and The Lion King, which were both the highest-grossing blockbusters of their respective years.
The Lion King is a 2019 American computer-animated musical adventure movie directed and produced by Jon Favreau and produced by Walt Disney Pictures. It was written by Jeff Nathanson and directed by Jon Favreau. It’s a photorealistic computer-generated recreation of Disney’s 1994 film of the same name, which was conventionally animated.
On July 19, 2019, the film was released in theatres in the United States. During its theatrical run, it grossed over $1.6 billion worldwide, surpassing Frozen to become the highest-grossing animated picture of all time. It also went on to become the sixth highest-grossing picture of all time and the second-highest-grossing film of 2019.
At the 77th Golden Globe Awards and the 25th Critics’ Choice Awards, the film garnered nominations for Best Animated Feature Film and Original Song. It was also nominated for visual effects at the 73rd British Academy Film Awards and the 92nd Academy Awards. A sequel is in the works, with Barry Jenkins attached to direct.
