Who is Kirron Kher?

Kirron Kher popularly known as Kiran or Kiron, is an Indian actress, singer, entertainment producer, and TV talk show host. She is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. She was elected to the Lok Sabha, India’s lower house of parliament, representing Chandigarh in May 2014.

Kirron Kher was born on June 14, 1952, in Chandigarh, India, to an Indian Punjabi Jat Sikh family. Her parents gave her the name ‘Kiran,’ and her full name was ‘Kiran Thakur Singh Sandhu.’ She was referred to as ‘Kiran Berry’ during her first marriage to Gautam Berry. When she married Anupam Kher, she took back her maiden name and added her new husband’s surname to become ‘Kiran Thakur Singh Kher.’

Kirron attended school in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, and continued her schooling in Chandigarh before graduating from Panjab University’s Department of Indian Theatre in Chandigarh. Kirron married Mumbai businessman Gautam Berry in the first week of March 1979, and they had a son, Sikandar Kher.

She made her cinematic debut in 1983 with Aasra Pyar Da, a Punjabi feature film. She then took a break from acting till 1996. Between 1983 and 1996, she only appeared in one film, Pestonjee (1987), in which she co-starred with her second husband, Anupam Kher, in a minor role. After a woman in Chandigarh was gang-raped by an auto-rickshaw driver and his accomplices in 2017, she urged that women avoid traveling with strangers, drawing widespread criticism from the opposition and social media.
