Governor Juan Alvarado granted Fernando Tico a 17,717-acre (71.70 km2) Mexican land grant in present-day Ventura County, California in 1837. Rancho Ojai is situated on the east bank of the upper Ventura River, just across from the Rancho Santa Ana grant, which was also granted in the same year. The grant included the current city of Ojai, which is located at the base of the Topatopa Mountains. Britney Spears has a $7.4 million home on a 20-acre lot in Thousand Oaks.
