James Earl Jones is one of the most well-known and recognizable voices in movie history. Most people know his voice from Star Wars’ Darth Vader and Disney’s The Lion King’s Mufasa. James Earl Jones, an American actor, was born on January 17, 1931, and has had a career spanning more than seven decades. For his roles in film, stage, and television, he has been called ‘one of America’s most distinguished and varied’ performers, as well as ‘one of the greatest actors in American history.’

Jones has earned three Tony Awards, two Primetime Emmy Awards, and a Grammy Award over his career. In 1985, he was elected to the American Theater Hall of Fame. In 1992, President George H.W. Bush awarded Jones the National Medal of the Arts. In 2002, he was awarded the Kennedy Center Honor. In 2009, President Barack Obama invited Jones to play Shakespeare at the White House Evening for Poetry.
