A lot of movies turn out totally different from their packaging and I am saying this only in a good way. Satya Prem Ki Katha is one of such films. You expect comedy, colourful & vibrant songs and a whole lot of drama but there is much much much more of it. The film offers a totally different plot wrapped in a love story enveloped format.

Starring Kartik Aaryan as Satya Prem, a Gujju boy who is perceived as a “lukkha’’, ie, good for nothing by the society and at times, by his mother (Supriya Pathak) and sister (Shikha Talsania) as well. In reality, he is a earnest boy with a pure heart who shares a bff bond with his father played by the always brilliant Gajraj Rao. Constantly taunted by people around for being jobless and still being a bachelor, Satyaprem is optimistic about finding the love of his life.

Enters Katha, a Gujarati girl who performs & dances at events with a spark on her face. She dances & flies like a true firecracker and Satyaprem is smitten instantly. He even hypes him and shouts ‘Once More’ after seeing her dance. But oops, Katha is taken and the always optimistic Satyaprem asks her out by cancelling his current boyfriend simply because they don’t have a killer hashtag like‘SatyaPremKiKatha’. But wait, it’s just for the charm, swooning and the effects. The film has to offer a totally different plot wrapped in a love story enveloped format.

As fate would have it, Katha breaks up with his boyfriend for reasons best known to her while this development leaves Satyaprem and his family overjoyed. In the hope of solely marrying and loving Katha, Satyaprem begins to approach her and saves her life in the process. After the whole incident, Katha’s parents visit Satyaprem’s home for the marriage proposal and voila! They are married!

While Satyaprem is truly, madly, deeply in live with Katha but it aint the same from her side. She has some inhibitions solely due to her past trauma, hidden demons and she even hides it citing an ‘asexual’ excuse of sorts. SatyaPrem understands and even tries to help Katha by saying ‘’agar help chahiye rahi toh supporting hero banke chalunga’’ which slowly and steadily does the trick. He is persistent (in an adorable manner) but not clingy. You feel bad for Satyaprem but Katha’s trauma isn’t healed yet so it explains the dooriyaan. Satya starts again and says “pehle hum couple nahi, friends banenge” while gifting her yellow flowers.

And as this review is purely pro ‘no spoiler’,  what lies ahead is simply a things of the past, ie, a love pure like no other, a companionship which belongs to the dreamy stuff and a rock solid support system which can heal anyone & everyone.

What We Loved : The dad-son jodi of Gajraj Rao & Kartik Aaryan. It’s unmissable and a pure riot to watch. Satyaprem and his father can have a totally different plot-movie and I would still go for it. Also, Kartik Aaryan is back and delivers as the multi-shaded Satyaprem. He is innocent yet funny, his punches are funny and are left with a wave of audience both clapping and giggling while repeating his one liners.

Kiara brings both believability and vulnerability to Katha’s character and her eyes speak volumes. Kiara is getting better with each passing film where she can do a firecracker girl’s role and role of a girl with a trauma both with equal aplomb. Needless to say, her emotional scenes are a solid winner.

The national award winning duo of director-writer Sameer Vidwans & Karan Shrikant Sharma give us a winner and the already packed theatres reflect the same.

Overall Rating : 3.5/5
