Mumbai has marked a historic milestone with the appointment of IPS officer Aarti Singh as the city’s first Joint Commissioner of Police (Intelligence). A 2006-batch officer with an MBBS degree, Singh brings a unique blend of medical knowledge and policing expertise to this newly created role.
The Maharashtra government recently established the position to bolster intelligence capabilities in the metropolis. With this move, the leadership of the Special Branch has been elevated from the rank of Additional Commissioner of Police (DIG rank) to Joint Commissioner of Police (IG rank), reflecting the state’s focus on proactive intelligence gathering.
Singh’s appointment is seen as a significant step towards inclusive leadership in Mumbai Police, as well as a strategic move to strengthen internal security mechanisms.
