Norman Lloyd, who is 103 years old, is Hollywood’s oldest working actor. His first film credit dates from 1939 when he appeared in The Streets of New York, and he followed that up with a role in Alfred Hitchcock’s Saboteur.
Norman Nathan Lloyd, an American actor, producer, and director, was born on November 8, 1914, and had a nearly century-long career in the entertainment industry. With a career that began in 1923, he worked in every major aspect of the industry, including theatre, radio, television, and film. After reaching the age of 100, Lloyd’s final picture, Trainwreck, was released in 2015.
He worked with such notable companies as the Federal Theatre Project’s Living Newspaper unit, the Mercury Theatre, and the Group Theatre during his apprenticeship with Eva Le Gallienne’s Civic Repertory Theatre in the 1930s. Lloyd’s lengthy professional affiliation with Alfred Hitchcock began with his appearance in the film Saboteur as a Nazi operative (1942). He also featured in Spellbound (1945) and was a producer on Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Hitchcock’s anthology television series.
Throughout the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, Lloyd directed and produced episodic television. He played Bodalink in Charlie Chaplin’s Limelight (1952), Mr. Nolan in Dead Poets Society (1989), and Mr. Letterblair in The Age of Innocence in his acting career, which spanned over 60 films and television shows (1993). Lloyd attracted a new generation of fans in the 1980s when he starred as Dr. Daniel Auschlander on the medical drama St. Elsewhere.
