She is also noted for her humanitarian efforts as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, which has taken her to Darfur, Chad, and the Central African Republic. She was named one of the most important people in the world by Time magazine in 2008.
Farrow made history when she became the first American actor to join the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1971, playing Joan of Arc in Jeanne d’Arc au bûcher. The stage adaptations of Mary Rose (1972), Three Sisters (1973), and Ivanov followed (1976). Throughout the 1970s, she also appeared in several films, including the 1974 film adaptation of The Great Gatsby and Robert Altman’s comedy A Wedding (1978).
Farrow has made sporadic appearances on television since the 2000s, including a recurring part on Third Watch (2001–2003). She’s also appeared in films including The Omen (2006), Be Kind Rewind (2008), and Dark Horse (2011) as a supporting character.
In 2014, she starred in a Broadway revival of Love Letters. She has devoted significant time to raising her adoptive and biological children, as well as participating in humanitarian initiatives in other nations, particularly those affecting human rights in Africa.
