How is the film Passengers?

Passengers is a 2016 Hollywood science-fiction romance film directed by Morten Tyldum and written by Jon Spaihts, based in part on the EC Comics tale ’50 Girls 50′ from the 1950s. Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt star in the picture, which also features Michael Sheen and Laurence Fishburne in supporting parts.

On a spaceship transporting thousands of passengers to a colony on a planet in a star system 60 light-years from Earth, two passengers are awakened 90 years too early from an artificial sleep.

Spaihts wrote the script in 2007, but it was stuck in development hell for years, with several actors attached. Sony Pictures Entertainment acquired the film’s rights in December 2014, with Tyldum set to direct. In February 2015, Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence were cast as the two leads.

Village Roadshow Pictures, Start Motion Pictures, Original Picture, LStar Capital, Wanda Pictures, and Company Films produced the film. From September 2015 to February 2016, principal photography took place at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Atlanta, Georgia. It is Columbia Pictures’ final collaboration with Village Roadshow Pictures.

Passengers had its world debut on December 14, 2016, at the Regency Village Theater in Los Angeles, and was distributed in two dimensions and RealD 3D by Columbia Pictures on December 21, 2016.

Critics praised Lawrence and Pratt’s performances, as well as Newman’s musical score, visual flair, and production values, but criticized the plot and characters. The film garnered nominated for Best Original Score and Best Production Design at the 89th Academy Awards, grossing $303 million worldwide.
