How is the film Undisputed?

Undisputed is a 2002 American action sports film starring Wesley Snipes and Ving Rhames. It was written, produced, and directed by Walter Hill. On August 23, 2002, it was released in the United States.

The film did poorly at the box office and had mixed reviews from critics; nevertheless, it eventually found success on home video and launched a film franchise with a direct-to-video sequel that featured none of the original cast members.

George ‘Ice Man’ Chambers (Rhames) is a heavyweight boxing champion. When Chambers is accused of rape and sentenced to prison, however, his world is flipped upside down. When he arrives, he hears about Monroe Hutchen (Snipes), who has been the highest-ranked jail boxing champion for the past ten years. There is immediate enmity amongst the guys, with Chambers refusing to be second best to anyone, resulting in a lunchroom brawl.

Emmanuel ‘Mendy’ Ripstein (Peter Falk) puts up a jail boxing battle between the two guys to determine who is the genuine UNDISPUTED champ, figuring it will be an excellent way to make money. Fisher Stevens, John Seda, and Master P co-star alongside Michael Rooker as a guard.

Miramax Pictures reportedly paid $4.5 million for the distribution rights. According to rumors in the press, Miramax president Harvey Weinstein wanted more scenes reshot to make Wesley Snipes more sympathetic, but Snipes refused.

Three direct-to-video sequels were released for the picture. Undisputed II: Last Man Standing was the first, and it was released in 2006. Undisputed III: Redemption, the second sequel, was released in 2010 and continues the main character from Undisputed II, Yuri Boyka. Boyka: Undisputed, a third sequel centering on the latter character, was released in 2017.
