Today, a special CBI court delivered its ruling about the passing of actress Jiah Khan. Sooraj Pancholi, an actor who was her then-boyfriend, was charged with aiding suicide. Sooraj was detained by the Mumbai Police on June 10, 2013, and was later released on bail on July 3. Jiah was discovered on June 3, 2013, by her mother Rabia Khan, hanging from the ceiling of her Bombay home.
ANI shared the news on Twitter, “Actor Sooraj Pancholi acquitted of abetment charges in Jiah Khan suicide case.” The “paucity of evidence” in the case was mentioned by the Special CBI Court in Mumbai. According to Live Legal, Jiah’s mother Rabia Khan was advised by the judge that she has the option to appeal the ruling.
The late actress’ mother spoke to the media just prior to the judgment, saying, “Let’s see what court comes up after ten years. I want truth to be installed Jiah Khan did not take her own life We have spent 10 years exposing the truth based on factual evidence. Now it is up to the court to draw the right conclusions.”
A 6-page letter that Jiah is said to have written was discovered in her home after she passed away. The cops in Mumbai took it. Details regarding her “intimate relationship, physical assault, and mental and physical torment” were included in her letter. In 2013, Sooraj was charged under section 306 (abetment to suicide). After he was granted bail, Jiah’s mother—a crucial witness for the prosecution—moved to the Bombay High Court to request that the investigation be turned over to the Central Bureau of Investigation. She testified in court that she thought it was a murder case rather than a suicide. On the other side, Sooraj had asserted that the allegations were untrue in his final statement submitted to the court.
