Ektaa R Kapoor is reportedly in the early stages of developing a sequel to Udta Punjab, the hard-hitting 2016 crime drama that tackled Punjab’s drug crisis. While the film is still in the scripting phase, sources reveal that Kapoor has roped in writer-director Aakash Kaushik to helm the project, marking a new creative direction for the sequel.
Unlike its predecessor, which was directed by Abhishek Chaubey, Udta Punjab 2 will feature a fresh storyline while retaining its core theme—the drug menace in Punjab. Chaubey, who played a key role in shaping the original film’s gritty narrative, will not be involved in the sequel due to prior commitments.
