Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu and singer Sona Mohapatra have expressed displeasure over the Chhattisgarh High Court’s remark refusing to treat a physical relationship with a legally married wife as rape against her will. Both these stars have expressed their strong displeasure over the remarks made by the court on Twitter. Taapsee Pannu and Sona objected to this comment by sharing the screenshot of the High Court. Taapsee wrote on her Twitter, that’s all I had to hear now.
On the other hand, Sona tweeted on her Twitter account and wrote, The illness I feel after reading this is beyond what I write here. Known for their outspokenness, both the actress openly support each other from time to time.
In a case in the Bemetara district of Chhattisgarh, the complainant wife had accused her husband of raping her and having unnatural relations. The wife had complained to the police station that they were married in June 2017. After a few days of marriage, the victim’s husband and in-laws started harassing her and demanding dowry. Her husband abused her and also used to beat her. The wife also alleged that her husband forced her to have sex several times.
The culprit had challenged the allegations against him in the High Court. He argued that physical relations or any sexual act by the husband with his wife in legal marriage is not rape. Even if, it is done by force or against the will of the wife. While delivering the verdict on this matter, the court held that sexual intercourse or any sexual act by a husband with wife is not rape even if it was against her wish. The verdict is delivered on 23 August.
