Actor Ayushmann Khurrana never shies away from acting in films dealing with taboo subjects. He says the success of his films like Vicky Donor and Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, in which he played a sperm donor and a man with erectile dysfunction, restored his belief that people in India want to discuss taboo topics.
R S. Prasanna, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan has released four years ago on this day. The film talks about a shy boy named Mudit, who, before his marriage, learns that he is suffering from erectile dysfunction.
Ayushmann Khurrana said that I started in Bollywood with a bold taboo topic of sperm donation in Vicky Donor. Thanks to Shoojit da for this. This film showed me how audiences are changing and accepting disruptive subjects.
The actor, who is known as the poster boy of content cinema, said, “With Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, I return to this space along with Aanand L Rai and RS Prasanna. His talent was insensitively showing the subject like erectile dysfunction. It was important for all of us to make it entertaining and delicious enough to engage the audience.
It was the success of the films that convinced Ayushmann Khurrana that the audience wanted to talk about these topics.
He said that after Vicky Donor, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan further strengthened my belief that the people of India want to openly discuss the taboo subjects and address them in their way for the betterment of society.
The 36-year-old actor said the film’s success has inspired him to stay on course and try to bring more such subjects out of the closet and into mainstream cinema.
I felt it was necessary to discuss these things.
