What is Cinematic Theatre?

Cinemark Holdings, Inc. is an American movie theatre chain that first opened its doors in 1984 and has since grown to include hundreds of sites across the Americas and Taiwan. Its headquarters are in Plano, Texas, which is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. With a 30 percent market share, it is Brazil’s largest movie theatre network.

Cinemark runs theatres under a variety of names, including Cinemark, Century Theatres, Tinseltown, CinéArts, and Rave Cinemas, among others.

In May 2021, Cinemark agreed to broadcast films from Warner Bros., Walt Disney Studios, Paramount, and Sony, among its major Hollywood studio partners. The effort aims to determine how long films will be available in theatres before being released on home video.

Lee Roy Mitchell founded Cinemark as a chain of movie theatres in California, Texas, and Utah. The exact date of Cinemark’s inception is unknown. While Cinemark claims to have begun operations in 1984, online records indicate that it may have begun operations as early as 1977. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Cinemark closed all of its 345 theatres across the United States indefinitely on March 18, 2020. The temporary closure was described by Cinemark in a statement as “a proactive move in support of the health and safety of its employees, guests, and communities.”
