Michael Bay directed Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, a 2009 American science fiction action film based on the Transformers toy brand. It is the follow-up to the 2007 film Transformers and the second installment in the live-action Transformers franchise. The tale follows Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf), who is caught up in the fight between the Autobots, commanded by Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen), and the Decepticons, led by Megatron (Hugo Weaving), two years after the events of the previous film.

Sam begins to have strange visions of Cybertronian symbols and is pursued by the Decepticons on the orders of The Fallen, an ancient Decepticon who seeks vengeance on Earth by discovering and activating a machine that would provide the Decepticons with an Energon source, destroying the Sun and all life on Earth in the process.

Revenge of the Fallen premiered in Tokyo on June 8, 2009, and was released in the United States on June 24, 2009. Critics thought it was inferior to the first film and gave it a bad review. The plot, script, crass humor, dialogue, offensive racial stereotypes, characters, and runtime were all blasted by critics, while the visual effects, action scenes, score, and performances of Peter Cullen and Hugo Weaving were praised.
