Is Dhoom film a hit or flop?

Dhoom is a 2004 Hindi-language action thriller film directed by Sanjay Gadhvi and written by Vijay Krishna Acharya and Aditya Chopra, who also produced the film through Yash Raj Films.

Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra, John Abraham, Esha Deol, and Rimi Sen feature in the film. It is the first installment of the subsequently well-known Dhoom series. The film’s cinematography was done by Nirav Shah, while Pritam wrote the original music, with Salim-Sulaiman providing the background score.

Dhoom was Yash Raj Films’ first action film in 16 years since Yash Chopra directed Vijay (1988). It’s about a cat and mouse game between a motorcycle gang that conducts thefts around Mumbai and a Mumbai cop who teams up with a motorcycle dealer to stop them.

The film became one of the top-earning Hindi films of 2004 in India, grossing over 290 million rupees (US$3.9 million). It got mixed reviews, with acclaim for its acting, action sequences, and music but criticism for its script, and it was compared to other Hollywood action-thriller heist films such as Fast and Furious (film series), Death Race (film series), and Ocean’s Eleven (film series) (film series). After its first release, the film became a cult classic.

It launched a film franchise, with Dhoom 2 released on November 24, 2006, and Dhoom 3 released on December 20, 2013.
