Is the film Agneepath (2012) a remake?

Agneepath is a 2012 Indian Hindi-language action drama movie produced by Hiroo Yash Johar and Karan Johar under the banner Dharma Productions and directed by Karan Malhotra, the latter’s former assistant.
It is a remake of Mukul S. Anand’s 1990 film of the same name, and it revolves around a script written by Malhotra and Ila Dutta Bedi based on an adapted version of Santosh Saroj’s original plot, with dialogues written by Piyush Mishra.

Through the film, Johar pays homage to his father, Yash Johar, the original film’s producer. Ajay-Atul composed the film’s music, with Amitabh Bhattacharya writing the lyrics. The title is based on a poem by Harivansh Rai Bachchan of the same name, which serves as a thematic link throughout the film, both literally and conceptually.

Hrithik Roshan plays the protagonist Vijay Deenanath Chauhan, a common man seeking vengeance for his father’s death, and Sanjay Dutt plays the antagonist Kancha Cheena, roles that were previously played by Amitabh Bachchan and Danny Denzongpa, respectively, with Rishi Kapoor portraying the newly introduced character Rauf Lala, an underworld gangster.

Agneepath

Agneepath’s principal photography took place in Diu and Mumbai, with multiple set mishaps. Agneepath was released on 26 January 2012 on 2650 theatres globally, coinciding with Republic Day celebrations, following many issues such as plagiarism charges and release date postponement.

With a worldwide gross of nearly Rupees 195 crore (US$26 million) and a budget of Rupees 58 crore (US$7.7 million), the picture broke the highest opening day collections record in India and became a significant critical and commercial success.
