Mary-Kate Olsen, an American fashion designer, former actress, and producer, was born on June 13, 1986. She began her acting career nine months after her birth, co-starring in the television sitcom Full House (1987–1995) alongside her twin sister Ashley Olsen in the role of Michelle Tanner. They also co-starred in several movies.
Dual star Entertainment Group was founded in 1993, and the girls starred in several television movies and direct-to-video releases, including Passport to Paris (1999), Our Lips Are Sealed (2000), Winning London (2001), Holiday in the Sun (2001), and the television series So Little Time (2001–2002), for which she received a Daytime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Performer in Children’s Programming.
They appeared in the films Getting There (2002) When in Rome (2002), The Challenge (2003), and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle as cameos (2003). Her most recent movie with her twin sister was New York Minute (2004). She maintained her acting career on her own, appearing in a few guest-starring parts in films and television shows, with Beastly (2011) being her most recent feature.
Both Mary-Kate and Ashley announced their intention to retire as actresses in March 2012 to focus on their careers in the fashion industry. She co-founded luxury fashion label The Row, lifestyle brand Elizabeth and James, and more affordable fashion labels Olsenboye and StyleMint with her twin sister. They are members of the American Council of Fashion Designers.
