In a decisive crackdown on platforms disseminating obscene and inappropriate material, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has ordered a ban on 21 OTT apps including popular names like ULLU, ALTT, Desiflix, Big Shots, Boomex, and others. The ministry found these platforms in violation of several key laws, including Section 67 and 67A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, Section 294 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Section 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.
Other apps in the banned list include: Navarasa Lite, Gulab App, Kangan App, Bull App, Jalva App, Wow Entertainment, Look Entertainment, Hitprime, Feneo, ShowX, Sol Talkies, Adda TV, HotX VIP, Hulchul App, MoodX, NeonX VIP, Fugi, Mojflix, and Triflicks.
The Ministry has explicitly instructed all Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to block public access to these platforms across India with immediate effect. It has also written to the Director (DS-II), Department of Telecommunications, requesting support in ensuring prompt compliance by ISPs.
