In which Hollywood movie girl is a snake?

Faith Domergue, Richard Long, Kathleen Hughes, Marshall Thompson, Jack Kelly, William Reynolds, and David Janssen starred in Cult of the Cobra, a 1955 American black-and-white horror picture from Universal-International Pictures, directed by Francis D. Lyon and produced by Howard Pine. The movie was released with Revenge of the Creature as a double feature.

Six American officers observe the Lamians’ secret ceremony (worshipers of women who can change into serpents). The High Lamian Priestess pledges that ‘the Cobra Goddess will avenge herself’ when the troops are discovered by the snake cult.

Cult of the Cobra

Once back in the United States, a strange woman enters each service man’s life, with disastrous results: ‘accidents’ begin to occur, and the shadow of a snake appears before each death. Critics compared the tale to Val Lewton’s previous horror picture Cat People, which was released in 1942.

Cult of the Cobra was published as part of Universal Pictures’ DVD boxed set The Classic Sci-Fi Ultimate Collection Vol. 2, which also included four additional genre films: (Dr. Cyclops, The Land Unknown, The Deadly Mantis, and The Leech Woman). Scream Factory released ‘Universal Horror Collection: Volume 6’ on August 25, 2020, a four-movie collection that included an audio commentary by Tom Weaver, David Schecter, Steve Kronenberg, and Dr. Robert J. Kiss for ‘Cult of the Cobra.’
