Which is Star Trek’s first movie?

Star Trek: The Motion Picture is the first film of the Star Trek franchise. The 1979 American science fiction movie directed by Robert Wise and based on Gene Roddenberry’s television series Star Trek, which he also produced.

A strange and enormously powerful alien cloud known as V’Ger approaches Earth in the 2270s, devastating everything in its path. Admiral James T. Kirk takes charge of the recently refitted Starship USS Enterprise and sets out on a mission to save the planet and learn more about V’Ger.

This movie was released in North America on December 7, 1979, to mixed reviews, with many criticizing it for a lack of action scenes and an over-reliance on spectacular effects.

Its total production cost rose to $44 million, and it grossed $139 million worldwide, falling short of studio estimates but enough to prompt Paramount to suggest a less expensive sequel. For the sequel, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Roddenberry was compelled to relinquish creative authority (1982). Wise oversaw the creation of a director’s edit for the film’s special DVD release in 2001, which included remastered audio, tighter and added scenes, and new computer-generated effects.
