How did Martin Lawrence rise to fame?

Martin Lawrence rose to prominence as a star actor in Hollywood during the 1990s. He got his start in the television series What’s Happening Now!! (1987–1988), where he played Maurice Warfield. He is a German-born American comedian, actor, producer, and writer who was born on April 16, 1965.

What’s Happening!! was an American sitcom that ran on ABC from August 5, 1976, to April 28, 1979. It debuted as a summer series. What’s Happening!! returned as a weekly series from November 1976 to April 1979, with decent ratings and reviews, and following the demise of numerous other shows on the network; ratings were modest.
Cooley High, a movie written by Eric Monte, was partially inspired by What’s Happening!! A follow-up series, What’s Happening Now!!, aired in first-run syndication from 1985 to 1988, with most of the main cast members reprising their roles.

Bud Yorkin’s second series after parting ways with Norman Lear and Tandem Productions was this one. After the break, Yorkin, Saul Turteltaub, and Bernie Orenstein founded TOY Productions, which produced the show.

All three seasons of What’s Happening!! have been released by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Mill Creek Entertainment stated on August 27, 2013, that it had purchased the rights to multiple television series from the Sony Pictures catalog, including What’s Happening!! They’ve released the first two seasons on DVD on September 2, 2014. Mill Creek issued a budget-friendly complete series package, a 6-disc set containing all 65 episodes, on April 21, 2015.
