Marlon Wayans stars in A Haunted House, a 2013 American found footage parody film written, produced, and directed by Michael Tiddes. The film pokes fun at the found-footage horror genre, such as Paranormal Activity and The Devil Inside, despite Wayans claim that it is not a parody but rather a movie with humorous characters doing the opposite of what typical people do in similar horror movies.
It was released on January 11, 2013, to critical acclaim, but grossed $60 million against a $2.5 million budget. On April 18, 2014, a sequel, A Haunted House 2, was released. A Haunted House made $40.4 million in North America and $20.1 million in other regions for a total of $60.5 million worldwide on a $2.5 million budget. The picture earned $18.1 million in its first weekend, placing it second behind Zero Dark Thirty ($24.4 million) at the box office.
Due to the financial success of the first movie, Wayans, Open Road, and IM Global Octane declared on April 8, 2013, that they will develop a sequel. Early in July 2013, filming for the sequel began. A sequel, titled A Haunted House 2, was released on April 18, 2014.
