Abhishek Kapoor directed Kai Po Che! Brothers for Life, a 2013 Hindi-language political action sports drama film. The film is produced by Rommie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur under the banner of UTV Motion Pictures. The story is based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel “ 3Mistakes of my life” and a song written by Amit Trivedi and Swanand Kirkire completed the Lyrics.
The three main protagonists in the film are Sushant Singh Rajput, Rajkummar Rao, and Amit Sadh, with Amrita Puri playing the female lead role. Kai Po Che! was released internationally on February 22, 2013, with a budget of Rupees 300 million (US$4.2 million), and was a critical and economic success, grossing Rupees 830 million (US$12 million).
The film received its international premiere on February 13, 2013, at the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival, when it was the first Indian film to be selected for the World Panorama section. Indian critics praised it, but western critics had conflicting feelings about it.
Kai Po Che! received six nominations at the 59th Filmfare Awards, including Best Director for Kapoor, Best Supporting Actor for Rao, Best Male Debut for Rajput, and Best Story. Kapoor received Best Screenplay for the film, and Hitesh Sonik won Best Background Score for the film.
