Is Divergent a science fiction movie?

Divergent is a dystopian science fiction action movie directed by Neil Burger and based on Veronica Roth’s 2011 novel of the same name. The Divergent Series’ first installment was produced by Lucy Fisher, Pouya Shahbazian, and Douglas Wick, while the script was written by Evan Daugherty and Vanessa Taylor.

Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Ashley Judd, Jai Courtney, Ray Stevenson, Zoe Kravitz, Miles Teller, Tony Goldwyn, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q, and Kate Winslet are among the cast members. The plot is set in a dystopian and post-apocalyptic Chicago, where individuals are divided into factions depending on their human values.

Divergent began development in March 2011, when Summit Entertainment acquired the movie rights to the novel from Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher’s production business, Red Wagon Entertainment. Reshoots took held from January 24–26, 2014, with principal photography beginning on April 16, 2013, and ending on July 16, 2013. The majority of the filming took place in Chicago.

Despite an $85 million budget, the picture grossed $288 million worldwide. On August 5, 2014, it was released on DVD and Blu-ray. The sequel, Insurgent, was released in the United States and other nations on March 20, 2015. Allegiant, the third movie in the franchise, was released on March 18, 2016.
