Neelam Kothari Soni, also known as Neelam, is an Indian jewelry designer and actress who was born on November 9, 1969. Neelam Kothari is a Gujarati-Iranian who was born in Hong Kong. She has started her acting debut with the movie Jawaani in 1984 opposite debutant Karan Shah. She learned to play the keyboard and danced Jazz Ballet as a child. Her family owns a traditional jewelry business that specializes in high-end pieces.

She attended Island School and was a member of the Rutherford House. Her family relocated to Bangkok after she completed her upbringing in Hong Kong. Neelam was on vacation in Mumbai when filmmaker Ramesh Behl reached her.

Kothari’s performance in her debut picture drew attention from the film industry, and she was approached with offers. She rose to fame in 1986 for her role in the film Ilzaam, in which she co-starred with another rookie, Govinda.

Following that, Neelam appeared in Love 86 (1986), Ilzaam (1986), Sindoor (1986), Khudgarz (1987), Hatya (1988), Farz Ki Jung (1989), Taaqatwar (1989), and Do Qaidi (1989) alongside Govinda (1989). She was interested in jewelry creation and was involved in her family’s business even while pursuing her acting career. She took a formal study in jewelry design[8] in Mumbai and, after temporarily leaving the film industry in 2001, returned to it.
