Nearly a month after the sudden demise of industrialist Sunjay Kapur in the UK, his mother Rani Kapur has written to the board of Sona Comstar and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), raising alarming concerns over the nature of his death. In her letter, she described the circumstances as “highly suspicious and unexplained,” and urged the company to defer its upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM).
“There is more than what meets the eye,” Rani Kapur wrote, seeking time to grieve and calling for further scrutiny into the events surrounding her son’s passing. Sunjay Kapur, who was previously married to actress Karisma Kapoor, was a prominent figure in the automotive industry and served as the Chairman of Sona Comstar.
The company has not yet issued a public statement in response to the letter, and it remains unclear whether the AGM will be postponed. Rani Kapur’s claims have sparked concern among stakeholders, with many calling for greater transparency regarding the circumstances of Sunjay Kapur’s death.
