DesKerala Film Producers’ Association Reports ₹650 Crore Loss for Malayalam Film Industry in 2024pite being hailed as a golden year for Malayalam cinema, the Kerala Film Producers’ Association (KFPA) has revealed staggering financial losses for 2024. Of the 204 films released this year, including five remastered classics, only 26 achieved financial success, earning titles such as super hit, hit, or average hit. These profitable films collectively generated a net profit of ₹300–350 crore, while the remaining titles failed at the box office, leading to an overall loss of ₹650–700 crore.
The total investment in Malayalam cinema this year was approximately ₹1,000 crore. Blockbusters like Manjummel Boys, Aadujeevitham: The Goat Life, Aavesham, and Kishkindha Kaandam captivated audiences nationwide, but their success could not offset the financial setbacks from the industry’s underperforming films.
