“I would literally have nightmares about it later that night” says Mehreen Pirzada on shooting Martial rape scenes in Sultan of Delhi

The road to power, a heart-warming friendship, and the charm of the 60s, Disney+ Hostar’s upcoming power-packed series, Sultan Of Delhi has it all. Based on the book, Sultan of Delhi: Ascension by Arnab Ray, the series is produced by Reliance Entertainment and Directed by Milan Luthria and Co-Directed and Co-written by Suparn Verma. Reimagining the charm of old India and creating a visual spectacle on-screen, Milan Luthria marks his OTT directorial debut with this larger-than-life mass entertainer, ‘Sultan Of Delhi” which is all set to release on 13th October 2023. The series stars Tahir Raj Bhasin, Anjumm Shharma veteran actor Vinay Pathak alongside Nishant Dahiya and the ladies Anupriya Goenka, Mouni Roy, Harleen Sethi, and Mehreen Pirzada, making for a perfect ensemble cast.

Portraying a character that is vulnerable, emotionally sensitive, and physically abused is immensely challenging for any actor. Mehreen Pirzada had to shoot a sequence where she is a victim of marital rape, in Sultan Of Delhi. She opens up about how it affected her and how she dealt with the consequences of it.

Talking about the same, Mehreen Pirzada said, “Marital Rape, I think is one of the most sensitive topics and I believe that especially in our country now the issue is coming to light. Sanjana has gone through a lot and it was very tough for me to play her role knowing what the character goes through. I used to get goosebumps when we used to shoot and felt a lot of anxiety, my heart rate used to spike up. I used to get really numb while going through the marital rape scenes and it would take me a lot of time to come out of my character. I would literally have nightmares about it later at night. But again I am glad that Milan sir has touched upon this topic as it is very important for our society to realize that it is a huge crime that women have become victim to.”

Sultan of Delhi is set to stream, from 13th October 2023 onwards, exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar
