Cast : Shah Rukh Khan, Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara, Sanya Malhotra, Riddhi Dogra, Sunil Grover, Priyamani, Lehar Khan, Sanjeeta Bhattacharya, Girija Oak, Deepika Padukone

Director : Atlee

Overall Rating : 3.5/5

All the Shah Rukh Khan fans have a massive and clear reason to celebrate once again after Pathaan as the actor is back and how. He is back in the celebrated director Atlee’s next, Jawan with a dream team. The movie is an all out and out action-drama packed with some never seen before action sequences, a very relevant social message and a strong punch against the system of our country where the riches always feed on the poor. The film stars an illustrative cast of Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Sanya Malhotra, Riddhi Dogra, Sunil Grover, Priyamani and very interesting cameos by Deepika Padukone and Sanjay Dutt.

Plot : A story about a man who builds his dream team of all women who have faced wrath from the system and the powerful in their lives and they decide to give it back to the system by combining their anger, skills and the determination to bring a change along with teaching them a lesson.

In a double role, Shah Rukh Khan plays both father and son, ie, Vikram Rathore and Azad respectively fights against the brutalities of a nation’s corrupt forces led by people like Kalee Gaikwad (Vijay Sethupathi) with his pack of ladies combining of Sanya Malhotra, Priyamani, Lehar Khan, Sanjeeta Bhattacharya and Girija Oak. To find out and solve the havoc caused by them, special task-force officer, Narmada (Nayanthara) is assigned to solve the case.

What We Liked : The very backbone of the film, ie, the social cause which Vikram Rathore, Azad and the girls are fighting for to bring a change and bring justice to the downtrodden works well for the film’s narrative. The film’s high-octane action is really worth your money because it is simply stylish, unique and effective. The chase sequences and the combat scenes are worth all the applaud which they are receiving and the pace of the film also works well for the film and it doesn’t feel like it is a 3 hour long movie. Not to forget, Shah Rukh Khan’s glory lies from start to end where it would be a sin for all SRKians if they don’t watch this movie in a theatre. Khan knows how to bring audience to the halls and he will surely be successful once again.

Coming to performances, Vijay Sethupathi proves again why he is one of the best actors across the nation with his gritty and dark portrayal of Kalee where he looks, walks and even clinches like the part. In her Bollywood debut, Nayanthara is commendable and shows both restraint and fiery vibe very well on the screen. Sanya Malhotra also shines throughout the movie with her character, fine expression of her character and she mixes her skills well in both action, dancing and emoting.

What We Didn’t Like : A few parts of the movie are illogical where a high-profile officer like Nayanthara gets married to a man who she is actually chasing as an officer and we also felt that actors like Malhotra must be given more screen space given their caliber. The chemistry between Nayanthara and Shah Rukh Khan is mostly missing apart from the song Chaleya. Also, being an Anirudh musical, apart from the background score, the song Chaleya and the Jawan Prevue theme sung by Rajakumari, all the other songs are quite underwhelming.

Overall Verdict : If you are looking for an out and out action-entertainer and if you want to watch a movie with a phenomenal cast with a very socially-important message, you should watch Jawan. And if you are a SRK fan, missing this movie will be a sin.
