Shruti Haasan is currently immersed in the shooting of Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and starring the legendary Rajinikanth. Sharing her excitement about the project, Shruti revealed how the film came to her in an unexpected yet serendipitous manner. “Lokesh’s vision for Coolie is amazing. I actually approached him for Inimel because I believed he had the charisma to be in front of the camera after seeing him on the sets of Vikram. He brushed it off at the time, saying we’d discuss it later, but instead pitched Coolie to me,” she shared. After a long wait, the project finally came through, much to her relief. “I have been a fan of his work, especially how he directed my father,” she added, referencing Lokesh’s collaboration with Kamal Haasan in Vikram.
Shruti also opened up about her journey working alongside Rajinikanth, a veteran of Indian cinema. While her father, Kamal Haasan, shares a legendary camaraderie with Rajini, Shruti admitted she had limited interactions with him growing up. “Honestly, I grew up more around Sathyaraj sir and Prabhu sir,” she said, highlighting her unconventional connection to the megastar. The sets of Coolie, however, gave her a chance to know Rajinikanth on her own terms. “The fun part is, I got to know Rajini sir independently during this film. There’s so much to learn from him, and it’s been a wonderful experience working with him.”
For Shruti, Coolie is not just another film—it’s a convergence of her admiration for Lokesh Kanagaraj’s storytelling and Rajinikanth’s unparalleled presence. The actor reflects on how these relationships, both new and old, have enriched her journey. “To be part of a project directed by Lokesh and to work with Rajini sir is truly special. I feel incredibly fortunate to be learning from two such extraordinary talents,” she concluded, expressing her gratitude for the unique opportunities this film has brought her way.
