Caitlyn Marie Jenner born as William Bruce Jenner on October 28, 1949, is a retired Olympic gold medal-winning decathlete and American media figure.
Jenner was a member of the Graceland Yellowjackets in college football before suffering a knee injury that necessitated surgery. Jenner had a six-year decathlon career, culminating in winning the men’s decathlon event at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, setting a third consecutive world record, and gaining fame as “an all-American hero.” Jenner was persuaded to try the decathlon by Olympic decathlete Jack Parker’s coach, L. D. Weldon.
Jenner has six children with three wives—Chrystie Crownover, Linda Thompson, and Kris Jenner—and appeared on the reality television show Keeping Up with the Kardashians with Kris, their daughters Kendall and Kylie Jenner, and Kris’ other children Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, and Rob Kardashian, from 2007 to 2021.
Jenner came out as a trans woman in April 2015, and her new name was announced in July. She starred in the reality television series I Am Cait, which followed her gender transition from 2015 to 2016. She has been dubbed the world’s most famous transgender woman.
Although many other trans and LGBTQ+ activists have questioned Jenner’s views on transgender matters, she is a transgender rights campaigner. She ran as a substitute candidate in the 2021 California governor recall election as a Republican. The recall failed, and she finished in 13th place among the candidates trying to replace Governor Gavin Newsom with barely 1% of the vote.
