Who is the toughest actor in Hollywood today?

Dwayne Douglas Johnson, better known by his ring moniker The Rock, is an American actor, businessman, and former professional wrestler who was born on May 2, 1972. He wrestled for WWE for eight years before pursuing an acting career. He is regarded as one of the best professional wrestlers of all time. His pictures have grossed more than $3.5 billion in North America and more than $10.5 billion globally, making him one of the highest-paid and highest-grossing performers in the world.

Johnson was a member of the University of Miami football team that won the national title in 1991. He aspired to be a professional football player, but he was undrafted in the 1995 NFL Draft. He signed with the Canadian Football League’s (CFL) Calgary Stampeders but was released after his first season. Johnson’s father Rocky and maternal grandpa Peter Maivia both worked as professional wrestlers, and he signed with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) in 1996.

Johnson’s first leading role was as The Scorpion King’s titular character in the sword and sorcery film The Scorpion King (2002), and he has since appeared in the comedies The Game Plan (2007), Tooth Fairy (2010), and Central Intelligence (2016); the action-adventure films Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (2012), G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013), Hercules (2014), and Skyscraper (2018); the science-fiction films San Andreas (2015).

Beginning with Fast Five (2011), his portrayal as Luke Hobbs in the Fast & Furious films has helped the franchise become one of the highest-grossing film franchises. Johnson also appears in the Jumanji movies, including Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) and Jumanji: The Next Level (2019), and will play Black Adam in the next superhero movie adaptation.

He starred in and produced the HBO comedy-drama series Ballers (2015–2019), as well as the autobiographical sitcom Young Rock (2021). Johnson’s book, The Rock Says, became a New York Times bestseller in 2000. He co-founded the entertainment production company Seven Bucks Productions in 2012, and he is a co-owner of the XFL, an American football league.
