The eagerly awaited 14th iteration of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM), which promises an unparalleled cinematic experience, is about to take place. The festival begins with the premiere of the Abhishek Bachchan and Saiyami Kher-starring movie Ghoomer.

Beginning with the much-awaited showing of R Balki’s film Ghoomer, starring Abhishek Bachchan and Saiyami Kher, the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) gets things going. Ghoomer depicts the remarkable journey of a paraplegic sportsperson who excels in cricket with the help of her coach through its intriguing plot and skilled ensemble. The festival’s opening night, which is set for August 12th, 2023, promises to be a spectacular occasion with participation from renowned actors and directors.

Ghoomer is a narrative about embracing creativity in the face of obstacles, changing hardship into opportunity, and paying respect to the strength of athletics and human resiliency, according to director R Balki and star Abhishek Bachchan. They are grateful that the movie was chosen to screen as the first film at IFFM, an occasion that firmly upholds the adage that “Sport makes life worth living.”

The lead actress of Ghoomer, Saiyami Kher, has expressed her joy and sense of great honour at the movie being chosen as the opening feature of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. She said that the movie retains a particular place in her heart and that it was an incredible opportunity to realise her ambition of playing a sportsperson on cinema. Saiyami emphasised that Ghoomer is more than just a sports movie; it is a tale of triumph over adversity. The premiere of the movie is made all the more significant by taking place in Shane Warne’s own country of cricket.

In addition, the Melbourne Indian Film Festival’s Ghoomer premiere will be graced by seasoned actress Shabana Azmi. Azmi has highlighted her excitement for the movie, in particular her performance as the grandmother who is totally supportive of the lead character in following her aspirations despite opposition from the rest of the family and who is fascinated with cricket. She accepted the part handed to her by director R Balki with enthusiasm, calling it a “delicious part” that would allow her to demonstrate her acting range.

The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne offers a variety of interesting activities at renowned locations all across Melbourne in an effort to top the success of earlier iterations. These sites, ranging from the historic Hammer Hall to the well-known National Gallery of Victoria, will act as the mesmerising settings for a number of exciting festival activities.

The 14th annual Melbourne Indian Film Festival promises to be a memorable and fascinating event. Ghoomer, the festival’s opening film, sets the tone for an inspirational tour of the greatest of Indian cinema. An exceptional celebration of talent, creativity, and the power of narrative is what attendees can expect.
