Kya Kehna is a 2000 Hindi romantic drama film from India. It was directed by Kundan Shah and released on May 19, 2000, with a budget of 5.3 crores (US$700,000). It was written by Honey Irani. Kya Kehna starred Preity Zinta as a single teenage mother, alongside Saif Ali Khan, Chandrachur Singh, Farida Jalal, and Anupam Kher, and dealt with the taboo issue of pre-marital pregnancy and society’s opinions. This is the first of several films in which Khan and Zinta collaborated.
Kya Kehna was shot in 1997 and was set to hit theatres in 1998. In truth, this was going to be Zinta’s debut picture, and she had even begun filming for it, but it was postponed to 2000 owing to mysterious reasons and delays.
It received favorable reviews from critics upon its theatrical release. Zinta’s performance was praised, as was Irani’s tale writing. Rajesh Roshan composed the music for the film. Kya Kehna was a surprise hit, grossing 21.8 crores (US$2.9 million) globally. Irani won Best Story at the Filmfare Awards, while Zinta was nominated for Best Actress.
The film’s soundtrack includes eight songs. Rajesh Roshan composed the music, and Majrooh Sultanpuri wrote the lyrics. The soundtrack album for this film was the ninth best-selling album of the year, according to the Indian trade website Box Office India, with roughly 20,00,000 units sold.
