David Wayne Spade, also known as David Spade, is an American actor, stand-up comedian, writer, and television personality who was born on July 22, 1964. In the 1990s, he was a cast member of Saturday Night Live, and he went on to have a film and television acting career.
Tommy Boy is an American buddy adventure comedy movie directed by Peter Segal and starring former Saturday Night Live castmates and close friends Chris Farley and David Spade. It was written by Bonnie and Terry Turner and produced by Lorne Michaels.
This was the first of several collaborations between Peter Segal and former SNL castmates. Under the working title ‘Rocky Road,’ the movie was mostly shot in Toronto and Los Angeles. Following the tragic loss of his industrialist father, it chronicles the narrative of a socially and emotionally immature man (Farley) who learns lessons about friendship and self-worth.
The film made $32.7 million on a $20 million budget. Critics gave the film a mixed response. He had become a cult classic and a home video success since its premiere.
Tommy Boy and Wes Craven’s New Nightmare, both released in 1994, are dedicated to Gregg Fonseca (1952–1994), who died eight months before the film’s premiere. While Fonseca did not work on either picture, he did work as a production designer on the first two Nightmare on Elm Street films, as well as Coneheads and both Wayne’s World films, all of which were produced by Lorne Michaels, who also produced Tommy Boy.
